GDANSK URBAN LAB 2019

On the 25th-27th of March 2019, our very first Urban Lab was organised in Gdansk, Poland.

The aim of the event was to bring together different city planners and activists. Furthermore, we wanted to inspire local project leaders to work with cultural planning methods.

The workshop included presentation of Local Areas in Gdansk by Agnieszka Rózga-Micewicz and Anna Fikus-Wójcik from the Gdańsk Development Bureau. In addition, Aleksandra Litorowicz from the Bęc Zmiana Foundation (PL) gave a presentation of the Warsaw Square research project. Kaspars Lielgalvis brought in ideas from Free Riga (LV), and Liene Jurgelane informed us about the Kometa Festival initiative in Riga. Finally, Lia Ghilardi from Noema Culture and Place Mapping (UK) gave an introduction to the cultural planning method.

On top of this, the participants learned about Medialab Katowic’s experiment in visualising the local history by mapping the neighbourhood from an artistic perspective. Grete Aagaard and Aleksandra Księżopolska from Łaźnia Contemporary Art Centre (PL) gave this presentation.
